Complex adaptive systems are all around us, they include the global financial system, the human immune system and ecosystems. They have many working parts, all or which are connected, adaptive and changing, and broad, operating over a range of scales. It is important we understand complex adaptive systems if we are to avoid future financial crises, disease pandemics, and mitigate the impact of global climate change. Introduction by James Watson.
